About Solar Home Planner

Solar Home Planner is a resource for homeowners in the process of evaluating, planning, or completing a residential solar installation. We write from the experience of having done it ourselves.

Meet the Editor

David Torres is the editor behind Solar Home Planner.

David Torres has spent 12 years in the residential solar industry, from rooftop assessments to post-installation performance reviews. He started as a solar installer and worked his way into system design, which gave him a ground-level understanding of how panels actually perform in real-world conditions. At Solar Home Planner, he covers installation process, equipment selection, and getting the most from a home solar system.

What We Cover

Solar Home Planner covers the residential solar installation journey, how to evaluate your home for solar, how to compare installer quotes, what’s in a solar contract, how permitting and interconnection work, how to understand your production monitoring data, and what the first year of solar ownership actually looks like.

Our Approach

Personal experience first. We tell you what we did, what worked, what we’d do differently, and what questions we wish we’d asked. When we cover topics beyond our direct experience, we say so and link to authoritative sources.

Disclaimer

Solar Home Planner draws on hands-on solar industry experience and general research. We are not licensed solar installers or electrical contractors. Solar system performance, costs, and incentives vary by location, home, and utility. Consult a licensed installer for a design and quote specific to your property.
